The Evening Telegraph was first published in March, 1877 and was one of the first halfpenny newspapers in Dundee. This edition is a 4pm copy, but three editions per day were published - at 3pm, 4pm and 6pm. The Evening Telegraph was printed at the offices of the the Dundee Advertiser by John Leng & Company and later merged with D.C. Thompson's 'The Courier'.
On this day of January 23, 1901, the reign of Queen Victoria ended as she died after illness at Osborne House. Page three of this newspaper contains numerous stories about the Queen, describing her death, her relationships and how the world responded to the news of her death. On the next page, mention is made of the distraught mourners in Dundee.
The Lamb Collection contains a vast array of documents and books relating to Dundee. A. C. Lamb was inspired to collect material after the city's historic centre was demolished in 1871. It has been added to ever since it was presented to Dundee Public Libraries by Edward Cox in 1901.
